Visit and tasting
It all begins outdoors, from a balcony overlooking the Cher River, where you can discover a view of the famous "Valley of the Kings": its hillsides, troglodyte dwellings, and waterways. Then, descending, you will visit an ancient troglodyte dwelling.
The tour continues in the old tuffeau extraction cellars. You will enter a labyrinth of galleries and be immersed in a scenography, custom-created by the artist Na/Da, offering a unique vision of the great Loire châteaux, retracing the history and origin of the cellars.
Finally, you will be initiated into the secrets of a great sparkling wine, including the famous Traditional Method, which has made Monmousseau's reputation since 1886. You will learn all about the prise de mousse, riddling, disgorgement, etc. The tour will conclude with a tasting of Maison Monmousseau's cuvées in the company of one of our sommelier guides.

The tradition began in 1886 with Alcide Monmousseau who successfully founded a wine trade in Montrichard. While his business enjoyed great recognition, he discovered at the end of the 19th century one of the most important freestone quarries in the region, which turned out to be for him and his nephew Justin-Marcel, the ideal place to the production of wines according to the traditional method. The Monmousseau cellars are an essential site for wine tourism in the Loire Valley. We offer you a unique visit to a great Touraine wine house, rich in its know-how and its 15 km of galleries. The visit begins in the open air with an exceptional view of the Cher and the famous “Valley of the Kings” which was also the largest place of troglodyte habitat in France. The immersion in the heart of our cellars is amazing thanks to the tapestries of lights worked by the artist Na/Da, to offer you an unprecedented vision of the most beautiful monuments of the Loire and retrace the history and origin of the cellars. Then, you will cross the production cellar where our bottles age on slats to explain to you in detail the traditional method for which the wines of Maison Monmousseau are renowned. You will end your visit with a commented tasting of our emblematic cuvées. Looking forward to welcoming you !
