Giró Ribot has a history that goes back several generations. It all began in the 19th century with the great-grandfather of the current manager, Pere Giró. Pere was the youngest of three brothers. At that time in Catalonia, the first-born son was the heir, who inherited the family business. This fact left Pere with only three options: become a soldier, become a priest or marry a pubilla, the name given to first-born daughters who therefore inherited the family home. As Pere was a clever man, he decided to choose the third option. Thanks to this union, years later he founded his own business with his son Manel, making spirits in the town of Vilanova i la Geltrú, beginning the production of liqueurs. Years later, father and son decided to part ways. Pere Giró kept the Gin Giró brand and left to set up a distillery, while his son Manel continued with the production of gin, but created the MG brand (Manel Giró). Over time and with his desire to expand the business, in 1976 he bought a brandy distillery in Santa Fe del Penedès, very close to his father's birthplace, with the aim of returning to his origins. A few years later, Manel died, leaving the distillery in the hands of his children, with his daughter Maria Rosa Giró Ribot taking over the management.
