Venissa was born in 2002, when Gianluca Bisol in Torcello, in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, the oldest church in Venice, saw a small vineyard. Intrigued, he met Nicoletta, the owner, and began to do historical and agronomic research on the vineyards. From here, the discovery of the great winemaking tradition of the islands of Venice that have always hosted many vineyards, until 1966, the year of the great high water that destroyed the vineyards and caused the loss of traces of this thousand-year-old tradition. The agronomic research then brought to light a native vine, the Dorona di Venezia, which over the centuries has adapted to the salinity conditions typical of the lagoon.
